Two Drug Peddlers Arrested with ₹30 Crore Worth of Drugs in Assam
The seizure occurred during an operation in the Gandharaj Bari area, under the jurisdiction of the Ratabari Police Station.
In a recent anti-narcotics operation in Assam, two drug peddlers were arrested with one lakh Yaba tablets that were estimated to have a market value of ₹30 crore. The drugs were seized in the Karimganj district, as reported by police authorities on Thursday.
The seizure occurred during an operation in the Gandharaj Bari area, under the jurisdiction of the Ratabari Police Station. Acting on specific intelligence, law enforcement officers checked a vehicle suspected of transporting illegal drugs. “We received information that a consignment of Yaba tablets was coming from the Mizoram side,” stated Partha Protim Das, Superintendent of Police, Karimganj. “Accordingly, we set up a naka checking in a place under the Ratabari Police Station and intercepted the vehicle.”
Upon thorough investigation, the officers found ten packets of Yaba tablets hidden inside the vehicle’s fuel tank. The individuals arrested in connection with the operation have been identified as Nazmul Hussain and Mutlib Ali.
The market value of the seized drugs is estimated to be around ₹30 crore thereby making this one of the largest drug busts in recent times in the region. “After thorough investigation, we recovered ten packets of Yaba tablets from inside the fuel tank of the vehicle. We have arrested two people who have been identified as Nazmul Hussain and Mutlib Ali,” stated SP Partha Protim Das.
This seizure shows the ongoing efforts of the Assam police to combat drug trafficking in the region. Earlier, on June 7, Assam Police conducted another successful operation, seizing 1.7 kilograms of heroin worth ₹8.5 crore and arresting one individual in the Dholaikhal area near the Assam-Mizoram border. “Based on secret information, Cachar Police conducted a special operation along the Assam-Mizoram border at the Dholaikhal area near Dholaikhal Border Outpost under the jurisdiction of Dholai Police Station,” said Numal Mahatta, Superintendent of Police, Cachar district.
The consignment seized in the June operation was suspected to have been illegally transported from Chaiphai, Mizoram, highlighting the challenge of drug trafficking across state borders. The recent arrests and seizures indicate efforts by the Assam police to handle the inflow and distribution of narcotics in the region.
These operations are part of a broader strategy to break the supply chains of illegal drugs and bring perpetrators to justice.
