Various studies done by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and AIIMS have clearly shown that there is no connection between COVID-19 vaccines and sudden deaths in adults after the pandemic. These studies found that lifestyle habits and existing health problems are the main reasons for these deaths.

On Wednesday, the Union Health Ministry said in a statement that there is no link between Covid vaccines and heart attacks in young people. This came after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah claimed that Covid vaccines might be causing heart-related deaths in the state.

Celebrities died from a heart attack

In recent years, there has been worry about rising heart attacks among people under 40. Many famous people in their 40s and 50s have died suddenly due to heart problems. Some examples include actor Sidharth Shukla (40), singer KK (53), actor Puneeth Rajkumar (46), filmmaker Raj Kaushal (50), and comedian Raju Srivastava (58).

What study says

ICMR and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) studied the causes of sudden, unexplained deaths, especially in young adults aged 18 to 45. Their study, called "Factors associated with unexplained sudden deaths among adults aged 18-45 years in India," was done between May and August 2023 in 47 big hospitals across 19 states and Union Territories.

The studies showed that unhealthy lifestyles and pre-existing health conditions (like diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking, or obesity) were the main reasons behind these sudden deaths, not the Covid vaccine. The study focused on people who looked healthy but died suddenly between October 2021 and March 2023. Another study called "Establishing the cause of sudden unexplained deaths in young," was done by AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) in New Delhi, with help and funding from ICMR.

The results clearly showed that COVID-19 vaccines do not increase the risk of sudden unexplained deaths in young adults. A statement explained that sudden heart-related deaths can happen because of many reasons, such as genetics, lifestyle, existing health problems, and complications after having Covid.

What Siddaramaiah said

These findings were shared one day after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah suggested that fast approval and distribution of Covid vaccines might be the reason for the rising sudden deaths among young people in the state. Siddaramaiah made this statement after reports that at least 20 people died from cardiac arrest in the Hassan district of Karnataka in just one month. He also said that a panel would be set up to study possible side effects of Covid-19 vaccines.

The Union Health Ministry responded by saying that scientific experts have confirmed there is no link between Covid vaccines and sudden deaths. They said such claims are false, misleading, and not backed by scientific proof. The ministry warned that making these kinds of statements without evidence can make people scared of vaccines. This could reduce public trust in vaccines, which saved millions of lives during the pandemic. False claims like these could make people avoid getting vaccinated, which can harm public health.
