The lawyer of Monojit Mishra, the main accused in the Kolkata law student rape case, has made a new claim. He said that besides scratch marks, there were also love bites on Monojit’s body, but the police did not share this detail. Monojit Mishra, who is a former leader of the Trinamool Congress student wing, is one of three people arrested for allegedly raping a 24-year-old law student inside a college campus. All three have been sent to police custody until July 8.
Monojit’s lawyer, Raju Ganguly, said, “The police told everyone about the scratch marks on Monojit’s body. But did they tell you that love bites were also found? If this was a rape, there wouldn’t be love bites on the accused’s body.” The lawyer used this point to suggest that the incident was not a case of rape. The lawyer’s comments came after a medical examination found scratch marks on Monojit Mishra’s body, which indicates that the survivor tried to fight back.
Conspiracy to frame Monojit
Talking to the media, Monojit’s lawyer, Raju Ganguly, claimed that the survivor’s story had many problems and said that there was a plan to frame (falsely accuse) Monojit. He also questioned whether the police took the survivor’s mobile phone and checked her call records.
“We asked the police if they took the survivor’s phone. If they did, was it sent for forensic tests? Did they check her call details? These things are very important for this case,” Ganguly said. The incident happened on June 25 at South Calcutta Law College and shocked people across Kolkata. It happened just months after a trainee doctor was raped and murdered in the city.
Questions on delay in complaint
Ganguly also raised questions about why the survivor waited to file the complaint. He said the incident happened at 10:30 pm, but she filed the complaint at 4:45 pm the next day. “If she was trapped, did she call her parents? Why didn’t she go to the police with her father right after leaving college? Why did she wait until the next day? This is a false complaint. We also have proof of what she was doing,” Ganguly claimed.
About the video on Monojit’s phone
When asked about a video that was reportedly found on Monojit’s phone, Ganguly said it was being shown wrongly. “I can say clearly that it was not a video of torture. The police are hiding the truth. You are all adults, you can understand what kind of video it was if there were love bites on his neck,” he said.
