US President Donald Trump called President Joe Biden a "son of a bitch" while visiting a new migrant detention center in the Florida Everglades on Tuesday. Standing alongside Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Trump accused Biden of trying to put him in jail, saying, "Biden wanted me in here."
The visit took place at a newly built facility nicknamed "Alligator Alcatraz," known for its remote location and surrounding alligator-filled swamps. Trump joked that anyone trying to escape would have to outrun the alligators. The remarks, made live on television, drew sharp reactions and added to the heated political tensions between Trump and Biden.
"Hey, Biden wanted me in here," Trump said, as DeSantis and Noem laughed. "It didn’t work out, but he wanted me in here," he repeated. After that, Trump was also heard quietly saying "That son of a bitch" on live TV. Trump is facing four criminal cases related to keeping secret documents and his actions after the 2020 election. He says these cases were started by the Biden administration to hurt him politically. Biden, who stopped running for re-election in July 2024 because of concerns about his health, has denied being involved in these cases.
While visiting an immigration detention center deep in Florida’s Everglades, Trump made some strong comments. The center is surrounded by swamps full of alligators and is nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz.” Trump joked that if anyone tried to escape, they would have to outrun the alligators.
He called the center “very appropriate” and “escape-proof” and said he wanted to build similar centers in many other states. He even suggested that some US citizens could be deported and that the Florida National Guard could act as immigration judges to speed up deportations.
“This place will soon hold some of the most dangerous migrants in the world,” Trump said. “The only real way out is deportation,” he added. Outside the center, hundreds of protesters gathered. They asked for better treatment of migrants and expressed worry about the impact on the Everglades, which is home to endangered animals and Native American tribes.
Trump's new announcement
Trump is planning to put very high taxes on countries that keep doing business with Russia, even after Russia invaded Ukraine three years ago. US Senator Lindsey Graham said that President Donald Trump supports a new bill that would add a huge 500% tax (tariff) on goods coming from countries that still trade with Russia. This includes countries like India and China.
Graham, who is pushing for these new sanctions, said in an interview on ABC News that Trump wants this bill to be voted on after the "July break." The bill already has support from 84 other lawmakers. The aim is to force countries like India and China to stop buying Russian oil and goods, which helps Russia continue its war in Ukraine.
Graham explained that the bill would allow the US president to put heavy taxes on goods from countries that support Russia’s economy. He believes this will push Russian President Vladimir Putin to start peace talks about Ukraine. However, Graham also said that Trump would have the final say on whether to use this power if the bill becomes law.
