India makes history as sniper rifle exporter

India has reached a significant milestone by becoming an exporter of sniper rifles for the first time. A Bengaluru-based company, SSS Defence, has secured a substantial export contract from a friendly nation for the supply of .338 Lapua Magnum calibre sniper rifles. This contract signifies India’s entry into the international market for high-precision, long-range rifles entirely designed and manufactured within the country.

The .338 Lapua Magnum sniper rifles are designed for precision targeting up to 1,500 meters and beyond. Alongside the sniper rifles, SSS Defence has also secured contracts worth nearly USD 50 million for the supply of ammunition to multiple countries. According to an unidentified source published by The Print, India has transitioned from a net importer of defense equipment to an emergent exporter. “India is now manufacturing and exporting a large number of equipment, from artillery guns to missile systems and small arms,” a source informed me.
