A 22-year-old woman was reportedly raped inside her apartment in a gated residential society in Pune’s Kondhwa area on Wednesday evening. The accused allegedly posed as a delivery executive to gain entry into the flat, police sources confirmed.

The incident took place around 7:30 pm, when the woman was alone at home. Her brother had gone out for some work, the police added

According to police, the man rang the doorbell and claimed to be delivering a letter from the woman’s bank that needed her signature. When she told him she didn’t have a pen, he replied that he didn’t have one either.

As the woman went to her bedroom to get a pen, the accused allegedly locked the main door from inside and entered the flat. He then sexually assaulted her, the police said.

During the attack, the man is believed to have sprayed some unknown substance on the survivor, possibly to knock her unconscious, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shinde.

DCP Shinde said, "There is a possibility that the accused used some kind of spray to try and render the survivor unconscious. Currently, 10 teams from Pune Police are working on tracing the accused."

Police also shared that the man used the woman's phone to take a selfie and allegedly wrote a threatening message, though details of the message have not been made public yet.

As soon as the complaint was filed, a forensic team reached the spot, and an investigation was launched. Officers are now examining CCTV footage from the society and nearby locations to identify and track the accused.

A case has been filed under Sections 64 and 77 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police teams are actively working on leads to locate the suspect.

More details will follow as the investigation progresses.
