Horrifying new details have emerged in the recent rape case in Cumilla, Bangladesh, as shared by the survivor and her brother. The incident, reportedly triggered by a dispute over a small loan of Rs 35,000, has led to the arrest of the main accused and several others.

According to reports from Prothom Alo, the incident took place around 11 pm on Thursday. The survivor, a Hindu woman, was alone at her father’s house in Cumilla with her two children. Her parents and brothers were not at home at the time.

That night, Fazar Ali, the man accused of the assault, arrived at her door. She refused to let him in, but Fazar forced the door open, stripped her, beat her, and raped her, the survivor and her brother told police.

The woman’s family had reportedly borrowed Rs 35,000 from Fazar. When the repayment deadline passed, he came to confront them. Finding only the woman and her children at home, he carried out the brutal assault, the report stated.

A senior police officer who led the investigation told Prothom Alo,

“Truly that woman is a victim of barbaric violence.”

The woman’s cries for help reached neighbours, who rushed to the house. One of the locals said that a few people found the woman and Fazar in a compromising position. Not understanding the situation, they attacked the woman and filmed her.

But after realising that the woman had been raped, the crowd turned their anger on Fazar, who managed to escape from the scene, according to the report.

After the attack, Fazar was taken to a hospital in Cumilla due to injuries caused by the mob beating. However, he later fled from the hospital. Police eventually tracked him down and arrested him in Dhaka.

According to locals, Fazar had a criminal background and was known to be involved in drug and gambling activities in the area. He also claimed to be part of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led by Khaleda Zia, though he reportedly held no official position.

Police have also arrested four other individuals who recorded the incident and posted it on social media. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
