Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given Ghana’s national award, called The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, on Thursday. He got this award for being a great leader and for his important work in the world. Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, gave him this award during Modi’s visit to the country. PM Modi thanked everyone and posted on X, saying, "Honoured to be conferred with ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’.”
In his speech, Modi said this award is not just for him but for all 140 crore (1.4 billion) people of India. He dedicated it to the youth of India, the country's rich culture, and the strong friendship between India and Ghana. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that this award shows the strong and growing friendship between India and Ghana. PM Modi thanked the government and the people of Ghana for giving him this honour. He said that both countries share similar democratic values and traditions, which will help make their bond even stronger.
Modi said that the award makes the friendship between India and Ghana even deeper and gives him a new responsibility to further improve the relationship. He also said he is sure that his "historic" visit will give new energy to the ties between the two countries.
Earlier that day, Modi and Ghana’s president had important talks and decided to make their relationship a "comprehensive partnership," which means working together even more closely in different areas. This is the first time in 30 years that an Indian Prime Minister has visited Ghana. Modi’s visit is also part of his trip to five different countries.
PM Modi's Visit to Ghana
Prime Minister Narendra Modi started his five-country tour with a special visit to Ghana. This is an important moment for India’s friendship with Africa. The main focus of this visit is to improve trade, healthcare, energy, and skill development between the two countries. Modi’s two-day trip to Ghana will include important meetings with President John Dramani Mahama, a speech in Ghana’s Parliament, and the signing of agreements in different areas like health, farming, digital technology, and defence.
India-Ghana relations:
India and Ghana have been friends for a long time. India set up an office in Ghana’s capital, Accra, in 1953. In 1957, when Ghana became independent, India and Ghana started full diplomatic relations. Both countries were also founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement, which means they did not take sides with any major power groups during the Cold War. They have always supported each other on issues like ending colonial rule and standing together internationally. Over the years, leaders from both countries have visited each other many times, showing how important this friendship is.
