Telangana plans to send over 900 workers to Israel amid labor shortage amid conflict

Amidst the ongoing tensions between Israel and Hamas, a notable development has appeared, over 900 skilled workers from Telangana, India, have been chosen for construction roles in Israel.
This program, marking the third recruitment drive of its kind within India this year, aims to counteract the labor shortages magnified by the ongoing conflict.
This recruitment drive, coordinated by the Telangana state government in partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation International (NSDCI), witnessed a rise in interest, with 2,209 laborers participating in Hyderabad.
After thorough skill assessments, 905 individuals clinched positions in Israel’s construction sector, attracted by salaries ranging from ₹1.2 lakh to ₹1.38 lakh per month, significantly higher than domestic wages.
Telangana’s Contribution to Labor Shortage
The recruitment initiative in Telangana reflects a broader trend of international cooperation to address pressing workforce needs amongst conflicts. This marks the third such drive in India this year, following similar endeavors in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The collaboration between India and Israel underscores the efficiency of government agreements in facilitating cross-border labor exchanges to bridge labor gaps.
Despite challenges such as temporary travel suspensions following conflicts with Iran, the recruitment process has advanced steadily, with the first batch of 60 workers already en route to Israel.
