Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has suggested naming a key road in Hyderabad after US President Donald Trump. The proposal comes just before the state hosts the “Telangana Rising Global Summit,” a two-day event designed like the Davos World Economic Forum, starting today. The summit will bring together business leaders, global institutions like the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, and policymakers from India and abroad.
Reddy said the government will write to the Union Ministry of External Affairs and the US Embassy to inform them of the plan. He had first shared this idea earlier this year during the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum conclave in New Delhi.
What is ‘Donald Trump Avenue’?
According to Reddy, the road planned to be named “Donald Trump Avenue” runs next to the US Consulate General in Hyderabad. Telangana officials say this could be the first such honour given to a sitting US President outside the United States.
This is not the first time the Chief Minister has renamed roads after global names. In the past, he has labelled several routes as “Microsoft Road,” “Google Street,” and “Wipro Junction.”
Reddy said naming important roads after world-famous personalities or top companies acts as a tribute and inspires people travelling through them. He added that it also helps Hyderabad gain greater recognition globally.
The Chief Minister also announced that a 100-meter Greenfield Radial Road connecting the Nehru Outer Ring Road at Raviryala to the proposed Future City will be named after Padma Bhushan Ratan Tata. The Raviryala interchange has already been named the “Tata Interchange.”
Union Minister and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar criticised the Chief Minister’s decision. He said Hyderabad should be renamed “back to Bhagyanagar.”
“If the Congress government is so eager to change names, they might as well start with something that actually has history and meaning,” he wrote on X. He also accused Revanth Reddy of renaming places after “whoever trends.”
“The only party actually stepping out, questioning the government, and taking up real people's issues through MahaDharna is the BJP,” he added.
