After the NDA’s big win in the Bihar Assembly elections, JDU chief Nitish Kumar is set to take oath as Chief Minister on Thursday. The ceremony will take place at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna.
Sources say the oath-taking is being planned as a large show of strength for the NDA. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Union Ministers, and Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states are expected to be present.
The Patna district administration has already begun preparing for the event. Top officials from the administration and police held a meeting to finalise important arrangements.
In the two-phase election earlier this month, the NDA scored a massive victory with 202 seats. The BJP won 89 seats, while the JDU bagged 85. The LJP (Ram Vilas), led by Chirag Paswan, added 19 seats to the alliance.
Reports earlier said the BJP may get around 15 ministerial posts in the new cabinet, JDU may get 14, and the LJP (Ram Vilas) may receive three positions.
This will be the tenth time Nitish Kumar takes the oath as Chief Minister. He first became CM in 2005 after replacing RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav. He is widely credited with guiding Bihar onto a development path.
Nitish Kumar is also the longest-serving Chief Minister of Bihar, though he briefly stepped aside after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, handing the role to Jitan Ram Manjhi, who later became his political rival.
