Chinese boy loses finger after foot spa treatment for nail infection goes horribly wrong

The father spent 600 yuan (US$86) paying for the treatment at the parlour.

A four-year-old boy from China fell victim to the wrong treatment and lost his finger after his father took him for a Foot Spa Treatment at a foot massage shop to treat a fungal infection on his nails. The boy was admitted to the Luozhendong Foot Massage Parlour located in Chongqing Municipality of China in July 2023 with an infection on the left index fingernail according to China Consumer News.

According to China consumer news, the boy was infected with a fungal disease in the left index fingernail and went to Luozhendong Foot Massage Parlour, which is in Chongqing Municipality, China in July 2023.  Here they were told by the shop that they had a substance known as“nail removing cream” which will help with this scourge of the boy.

During the treatment, they covered the infected fingernails with an elastic bandage after applying the cream. The father spent 600 yuan (US$86) paying for the treatment at the parlour. After two days, the father noticed that the finger of his son was shrunken and blackened. The boy had to be given medical attention and as conducted by the doctors, they found that the boy had gangrene in his finger.

The doctors said that the left index fingertip of Lin needs to be removed to prevent the infection from further extending.The boy was given the 10th-class handicap level and the father demanded over 200,000 yuan (US$29,000) from the shop which denied to pay. 

The issue was taken to the local district consumer council in February when the victim’s father filed a case. During the case, the council discovered that the “nail removing cream” was not authorized. They said that it just has the capability of sterilization and it doesn’t possess any capacity to cure. The council also discovered that the shop name written on their business license was different from what was displayed.The shop was held responsible for making the boy handicapped and asked to suspend its business and pay 160,000 yuan (US$23,000) to the boy’s family.
