The US government has launched a new hiring programme offering high-paying technology jobs, opening a fresh pathway for young engineers and tech professionals who want to work on large-scale projects. The initiative, called the United States Tech Force, will recruit around 1,000 candidates in its first phase and offer annual salaries ranging from $130,000 to $195,000 (approximately Rs 1 crore to Rs 1.6 crore).

Tech Force is a two-year early-career programme under the Trump administration that places selected candidates as full-time government employees in federal agencies. Instead of joining private tech companies immediately, participants will work on major government technology projects focused on artificial intelligence, software development, cybersecurity, data analytics, and technical project management. The programme is being led by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) along with other federal departments to modernise government systems.

A major highlight of the programme is the involvement of 28 leading technology companies, including Apple, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Meta, Nvidia, OpenAI, Oracle, Uber, and xAI. While these companies will not directly hire participants at the start, they will provide training support, mentorship, and learning opportunities through workshops and sessions with senior executives. The aim is to build a strong talent pipeline that can later move into private-sector roles.

There are no strict degree or prior work experience requirements, making the programme accessible to a wide range of applicants. Interested candidates can apply through the USA Jobs portal and will be selected through technical assessments, interviews, and background checks. OPM will conduct initial screenings before final placement with individual agencies.

Most roles will be based in Washington, DC, though some positions may offer remote or hybrid work options depending on the department. The jobs are non-partisan and follow federal ethics rules. The government plans to complete hiring for the first batch by the end of March and hopes to make Tech Force an annual initiative, giving tech professionals a rare opportunity to work within the US government while staying closely connected to the private tech industry.
