Bihar teen ‘made up’ fake IPS scam, purchased uniform on his own

A teenager from Jamui district in Bihar, named Mithlesh Kumar Manjhi, was arrested after he went to a local police station pretending to be an IPS officer. The fake IPS scam involved the 19-year-old was carrying a fake pistol and claimed he had paid Rs 2 lakh to get the position. However, after investigating the case, the police found that Mithlesh’s story was not true and didn’t match the facts.
No proof of money payment for job found
Mithlesh arrived at the police station on September 20, dressed in a police uniform and pretending to be an IPS officer. He claimed that a man named Manoj Singh had promised to help him get the job in exchange for Rs 2 lakh. According to Mithlesh, he borrowed the money from his uncle and handed it over to Singh. Singh then supposedly gave him the uniform and asked him to report to the station.
However, during police investigations, several inconsistencies in Mithlesh’s story began to emerge. His maternal uncle, whom he claimed had given him the money, denied ever giving any amount for a job. Instead, the uncle confirmed giving Mithlesh money for his mother’s medical treatment, house repairs, and a family wedding. This completely contradicted the teenager’s original story.
Investigation reveals gap in Manjhi’s story
The police thoroughly investigated Mithlesh’s claim about the alleged scammer, Manoj Singh. They tried to trace every individual with that name in the area but were unable to locate anyone matching the description. Also, the phone number Mithlesh provided for Singh was found to be switched off and registered under a different name, making it harder for the police to verify any connection.
Moreover, Mithlesh’s claim of meeting Manoj Singh on the day of the incident was also proven false. According to the police, Manjhi was not in Khaira, as he claimed, but in another town, Lakhisarai, raising doubts about whether this “Manoj Singh” existed at all. Investigators suspect that Mithlesh may have purchased the uniform himself and fabricated the entire story about being conned.
The case has taken a new direction as the police are now focusing on Mithlesh’s motives for showing up at the station in uniform. Jamui Station House Officer (SHO), Mintu Kumar Singh, confirmed that Mithlesh’s statements have been proven false, and further questioning is ongoing to understand the full extent of his actions. For now, Mithlesh Kumar Manjhi remains in police custody, and investigations continue.
