India’s legendary boxer Mary Kom, one of the most successful athletes in the country, is currently in the news for personal reasons rather than her sporting achievements. Her dispute with her ex-husband Onler has become public, with both sides making serious allegations against each other.

Although Mary and Onler have been separated for some time, the situation gained attention after Mary spoke openly in an interview. She claimed that when they got married, Onler was not earning any money and did not make sacrifices for the family. According to her, she was the only earning member of the household while Onler stayed at home.

Mary, a five-time world boxing champion, said that she worked hard in the boxing ring to support her family, but alleged that her ex-husband did not contribute financially. She even claimed that he spent most of his time sleeping and did not have a stable career at that point. Mary further alleged that Onler drained her bank account, saying she later discovered that most of her hard-earned money was gone.

In response, Onler strongly denied Mary’s claims and shared his side of the story. He said that the accusations made against him were unfair and misleading. According to Onler, he had a career of his own before marriage. He claimed that he was a contract football player for Shillong’s Excise and Customs department and was also preparing for the UPSC exams.

Onler also addressed Mary’s claim that he spent a large amount of money on contesting elections. He said that the decision to enter politics was not his idea, but something Mary encouraged him to do. He added that after Mary was nominated as a Rajya Sabha MP in 2016, she later pushed him to contest elections when her term was coming to an end.

Onler further stated that he gave up his career to support Mary’s boxing journey. He said that Mary was often away for training and competitions for weeks or months, and during that time, he took care of their children and managed the household. He said he handled daily responsibilities like bathing the children, feeding them, taking them to coaching classes, and running the home.

He admitted that their marriage did not follow traditional gender roles. According to him, he cooked, drove Mary to events, and supported her in every way possible. He said he did all this out of love, not for money or fame.

Onler expressed hurt over Mary’s comments and asked her not to disrespect the support he provided during their marriage. The dispute has sparked mixed reactions online, with people taking sides while others call for privacy. As of now, both Mary Kom and Onler stand firm on their versions of the story.
