India’s top table tennis player Manika Batra delivered a strong and determined performance to defeat China’s Qin Yuxuan at the WTT Star Contender Doha 2026, securing her place in the Round of 32 of the women’s singles event. The closely fought match took place late on January 15 and went the full five games, testing the skill, patience and mental strength of both players. Manika eventually won the match 3–2, with scores of 9–11, 13–11, 5–11, 11–7 and 11–8.
The match began on an even note, with both players exchanging rallies and trying to take early control. Qin Yuxuan managed to win the first game 11–9 by putting pressure on Manika’s serve and using fast, deep shots. Manika did not lose confidence and fought back strongly in the second game. Despite falling behind at times, she stayed calm, used her left-handed spin and smart placement, and saved multiple game points before winning the game 13–11. This helped her level the match and regain confidence.
In the third game, Qin raised her level and played more aggressively. She attacked Manika’s returns and did not allow her to settle into long rallies. Manika struggled to find her rhythm and lost the game 5–11, putting her under pressure as she was now one game away from defeat.
Facing a must-win situation, Manika showed her experience and composure in the fourth game. She slowed down the pace, used better serves and forced Qin into difficult positions. Even after Qin took a timeout, Manika stayed focused and won the game 11–7 to push the match into a deciding fifth game.
The final game was the most dramatic. Qin took an early lead and even held match points at 10–6 and 10–7. However, Manika refused to give up. She stayed calm, mixed her shots well, and forced errors from her opponent. Point by point, she closed the gap. At 8–8, Manika took control, earned a match point, and then won the next rally to seal the game 11–8 and complete a remarkable comeback.
This victory was especially important for India, as Manika was the only Indian player to advance beyond the Round of 64 in Doha. Her win kept India’s presence alive in the tournament and highlighted her ability to handle pressure against strong Chinese opponents. As she moves into the Round of 32, Manika’s fighting spirit and confidence will be key in facing tougher challenges ahead.
