Pakistani Maulana who advocated ‘death for blasphemy’ now on the run for ‘blasphemous remarks’ over alleged errors in Quran

He was heard asking, "Why are you following Nabi (Mohammad, Prophet of Islam), when he did not know how to read and write?"

Popular Pakistani Maulana Tariq Masood, who advocated for “death for blasphemy,” is currently under attack due to accusations of blasphemy and has fled to avoid the enraged mobs.

He was heard asking, “Why are you following Nabi (Mohammad, Prophet of Islam), when he did not know how to read and write?” in a video that went viral.

“The one (Mohammad) who is presenting the Quran (holy book of Islam), did not even write a single word and called others to write for him, which led to grammatical mistakes,” he added.

“No corrections were done because Mohammad did not know there were grammatical errors, which continue till today,” the Maulana said highlighting grammatical errors in the Quran.

Notably, the Maulana once advocated for Muslims to execute anybody who disobeyed the Quran or Muhammad “immediately” without going to court.

But now he is saying that everyone makes mistakes and that there are three ways to ask for forgiveness—something he has done and for which he is deserving of pardon.

Interestingly, earlier he had said, “Even if someone has sought forgiveness, we can’t say it is from the heart or just from the surface and hence, he should be punished as per the blasphemy law.”

The Maulana is releasing video tapes while he’s on the run, pleading with people to take his comments with context and asking for forgiveness.
