In an important update from Mathura, the Allahabad High Court has rejected a petition filed by the Hindu side in the ongoing legal fight over the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi and the Shahi Idgah masjid. The Hindu side had asked the court to officially call the Shahi Idgah mosque a “disputed structure” in all case records.
The petition was filed under Application A-44 by Advocate Mahendra Pratap Singh, who is representing the Hindu side. This petition is part of a bigger case that claims the Shahi Idgah mosque was built on land that belongs to the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple.
The Hindu side wanted the court to order that the term “Shahi Idgah Mosque” be replaced with “disputed structure” in all official documents and in future hearings. They also asked the court to direct the stenographer (the person who types down court records) to make this change.
But the Muslim side strongly disagreed. They gave a written objection and said that no such change should be made in the official references to the mosque.
After listening to both sides, Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra, who is hearing the case, dismissed the petition. The High Court agreed with the Muslim side and refused to make any changes in the records.
This case is one of 18 similar petitions filed by different members of the Hindu side. These petitions focus on religious and land claims near the temple, which many Hindus believe is the birthplace of Lord Krishna.
The next hearing will take place on August 2.
