US Presidential election 2024: Trump says ‘He won’t run for president again if he loses on November 5’
Current polls indicate a tight race between him and Harris, who emerged as the Democratic candidate after 81-year-old Joe Biden withdrew in July.
Republican candidate Donald Trump has stated that he will not seek the presidency again if he loses the US Presidential election 2024 on November 5. In response to a question about a potential future run against Democratic opponent Kamala Harris, the 78-year-old former president told the news program Full Measure, “No, I don’t. I think that would be it. I don’t see that happening at all.” He expressed his hope to be “successful” at the polls.
Current polls indicate a tight race between him and Harris, who emerged as the Democratic candidate after 81-year-old Joe Biden withdrew in July. Both candidates are closely matched in critical battleground states that could decide the election outcome. Meanwhile, Harris has started to gain ground in nationwide polls.
Amid his latest campaign, Trump has launched several business ventures, including Trump Media, NFTs, and branded products like sneakers, coins, and crypto. He continues to face tough competition from Harris, 59, who has framed the race as a pivotal moment for U.S. democracy, emphasising everyday issues like family costs and housing.
When asked if taking a four-year break helped him reassess his allies, Trump responded, “It would have been easier if I had done it all in one go. But the silver lining is it highlights just how bad they were.” Speaking with Attkisson at his Florida resort, he also mentioned that it’s “too early” to negotiate cabinet positions in a potential future administration if he wins in November.
Trump lost to Biden in 2020 but has continued to claim that the election was “stolen,” promoting various conspiracy theories. This rhetoric contributed to the January 6, 2021, insurrection when passionate Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an effort to disrupt the certification of the election results.
The former president, who served from 2016 to 2020, is currently facing criminal charges related to his attempts to challenge the 2020 election outcome. Trump has denied all allegations, claiming the charges are driven by political motives. In recent months, he has repeatedly declined to commit to fully accepting the results of the upcoming November election. If Trump were to consider another presidential run in 2028, he would be 82 years old at that time.
