President appoints six new governors and reshuffles three

Former Union Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar has been appointed as the new Governor of Jharkhand, succeeding CP Radhakrishnan, now the Governor of Maharashtra. The reshuffle also includes Gulab Chand Kataria, who replaces Banwarilal Purohit as the Governor of Punjab. Purohit resigned earlier this year for personal reasons.

Lakshman Prasad Acharya has been named the Governor of Assam, with Manipur in additional charge. Acharya replaces Kataria, who has also been appointed as the administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Anusuiya Uikye, who has been serving as the Governor of Manipur since February last year, will continue in her role.

These appointments will take effect once the new governors assume their respective offices. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence in Acharya, citing his extensive experience and dedication to empowering the poor.

In Punjab, the new Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, is expected to work in coordination with the Aam Aadmi Party-led state government, as stated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Mann mentioned that while he respected the outgoing Governor Purohit, there had been conflicts over various issues, including the calling of an assembly session and appointments of vice-chancellors for state-run universities.

President Murmu accepted Purohit’s resignation from his positions as the Governor of Punjab and the administrator of Chandigarh. Om Prakash Mathur, a veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, will replace Acharya as the Governor of Sikkim. Radhakrishnan, who also held additional charge of Telangana, will succeed Ramesh Bais as the Governor of Maharashtra.

Former Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma has been appointed as the Governor of Telangana. Former IAS officer K Kailashnathan will serve as the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Puducherry.

Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, a senior BJP leader from Maharashtra, has been appointed as the Governor of Rajasthan, succeeding Kalraj Mishra. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma congratulated Bagde and expressed optimism about the state’s progress under his guidance.

Additionally, former Assam lawmaker Ramen Deka and former Lok Sabha MP from Mysore in Karnataka, CH Vijayashankar, have been appointed as the Governors of Chhattisgarh and Meghalaya, respectively.

Former Union Labour and Employment Minister Santosh Gangwar expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his appointment as the Governor of poll-bound Jharkhand. Gangwar, an eight-time Lok Sabha MP from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, acknowledged the trust and opportunities provided to him by the party and the Prime Minister.
