Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed sharply criticized Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma on social media, calling him "fat for a sportsman" and labelling his captaincy as the "most unimpressive" in India's cricket history. She further questioned his ability to lead the national team effectively, claiming that his recent performances and fitness levels fall short of the high standards expected from top athletes.

Her comments drew immediate backlash, especially from BJP leaders and cricket fans. In response to a user who called Sharma a "world-class player," Mohamed dismissed the claim. She questioned his legacy, saying that his achievements do not match those of Indian cricketing legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Kapil Dev.

"What is so world-class about him compared to his predecessors? He is an average captain and player who simply got lucky to lead India," she wrote. The BJP strongly condemned her comments, accusing Congress of body-shaming and disrespecting a World Cup winner. BJP leader Radhika Khera, who recently left Congress for the BJP, criticized her former party for mocking athletes over the years.

"This is the same Congress that has long ignored and belittled athletes, and now it dares to ridicule a cricketing icon? A party known for nepotism is trying to lecture a self-made champion," Khera added.

Radhika Khera criticized Rahul Gandhi by saying that while Rohit Sharma led India to a World Cup win, Gandhi couldn’t manage his party without causing chaos. She also took a jab at Jairam Ramesh, urging him to worry about Congress’s fading influence, credibility, and electoral strength instead of attacking a cricketer who has made India proud.

"Congress should worry about its sinking dynasty before taking cheap shots at India's pride!" she said.
In cricket news, India won their final group match of the 2025 Champions Trophy by 44 runs against New Zealand.

Even though captain Rohit Sharma got out early, India still managed to score 249 runs in 50 overs. The bowling, led by Varun Chakaravarthy, was impressive and restricted New Zealand to 205 runs. With this victory, India has advanced to the semi-finals, where they will face Australia in a crucial match on March 4.
