A few days after the body of Congress worker Himani Narwal was found stuffed in a suitcase in Haryana, the police arrested one person in connection with the case on Monday. According to the initial investigation, the accused, a resident of Bahadurgarh, Haryana, was in a relationship with Himani. Sources revealed that she was allegedly blackmailing him and had taken lakhs of rupees from him over time.

The suitcase in which her body was found belonged to her. Sources further stated that she was murdered at her home in Haryana before her body was stuffed into the suitcase and abandoned. The police are continuing their investigation to gather more details about the case.

Soon after one person was arrested in the case, Himani Narwal’s family demanded the death penalty for the accused. They also said that her last rites would be performed today.“Himani’s funeral will take place today. Many rumours are being spread in the media. We will get justice. We still don’t know who the accused is, as the police have not given us any information. We want the accused to get the death penalty,” Himani’s brother, Jatin, told news agency ANI.

But Himani Narwal's uncle, Ravinder, said they will not cremate her until the police disclose the accused's identity, ANI reported. Her body was found near the Sampla bus stand a day before the municipal elections. The 22-year-old had been a part of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra. Following her death, Congress members have demanded a high-level investigation.

Himani Narwal's mother, Savita, has blamed fellow Congress members for her daughter's murder. She said that many people in the party saw Himani as a threat because of her growing political career and her closeness to senior leaders, including Rahul Gandhi.

“My daughter worked hard for Congress, and party members often visited our home. Some people in the party might have been involved in her murder because they felt threatened by her rising career,” Savita told India Today TV.

She added that Himani had been with Congress for the last 10 years and had even traveled with Rahul Gandhi to Srinagar during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. “She wanted to do honest politics, but some people wanted to trap her in problems,” Savita said.

Savita, who lives in Delhi, last spoke to Himani on February 27. She said her daughter was supposed to attend a rally by former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on February 28. However, when she tried to call Himani, her phone was switched off. After news of Himani’s murder shocked the state, Congress expressed condolences on X and demanded a fair investigation.
