Hunter Biden, the son of former U.S. President Joe Biden, strongly criticised actor and Democratic donor George Clooney for writing an article in The New York Times where he urged the Democratic Party to choose a new presidential candidate for the 2024 election.
In an interview with U.S. news outlet Channel 5 and a podcast with former Democratic National Committee chair Jaime Harrison, Hunter expressed his anger, using strong words against Clooney. He said, “F**k him and everybody around him. I don’t have to be nice.” He also agreed with filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, saying Clooney isn’t really an actor but just a brand.
Hunter questioned why Clooney’s opinion should matter in U.S. politics. Referring to Clooney’s friendship with former President Barack Obama, he said, “What does George Clooney have to do with anything? Why should anyone care what he thinks? What right does he have to attack a man who gave 52 years of his life in service to this country?”
George Clooney was one of the first big Democratic voices to suggest that Joe Biden should drop out of the race. In his July 2024 opinion article, Clooney praised Biden but said he was no longer the same leader due to his age and health. Joe Biden announced he was leaving the presidential race less than two weeks after that.
Hunter Biden also claimed Clooney was upset because Joe Biden had criticised the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The arrest warrant was supported by Clooney’s wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney. Hunter said Clooney was angry that the President didn’t show support for her.
Talking about the debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, Hunter admitted that the performance was bad and said his father was "tired" and had taken a sleep aid before going on stage. He added, “He looked like a deer in the headlights, and it added fuel to the negative stories.”
Hunter also addressed the 2023 incident where cocaine was found at the White House. He denied any connection to it, saying, “Why would I bring cocaine to the White House and leave it near the situation room?” He said he has been sober since June 2019. The FBI has reopened the cocaine case now that Donald Trump has returned to the White House as President in 2025.
