The war between Israel and Iran, which lasted 12 days, seems to be coming to an end after both countries accepted a ceasefire proposal brokered by the United States.
US President Donald Trump had earlier announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a truce. On his Truth Social platform, Trump shared the news with the world, calling it the end of the “12-day war. ” However, soon after his announcement, confusion began as Iran denied any such agreement.
Just a few hours after Trump’s statement, loud explosions were heard in Tehran. According to AFP, Iranian officials said there was no ceasefire deal and blamed Israel for continuing attacks. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on X, “As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations.”
At the same time, Iran launched more missile attacks on Israel. According to the Israeli military, a fresh wave of missiles was fired from Iran early Tuesday morning. Sirens went off across many cities in Israel, including Jerusalem. People rushed to underground shelters and parking lots after receiving alerts on their phones.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed the attacks on social media. “Sirens were heard in Israel after a missile launch from Iran,” the IDF said in a tweet. According to AP reports, this was the fourth wave of missile strikes from Iran. Israel’s emergency services, Magen David Zafon, said at least three people were killed and eight injured in the early morning attacks. A residential building in southern Israel was also heavily damaged.
Later in the day, Iran agreed to the ceasefire, putting an end to the intense fighting. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu officially announced Israel’s acceptance of the truce and said, “We have achieved the goal of ending the Iranian nuclear and ballistic missile threat.”
He also thanked US President Donald Trump for his help. Netanyahu said, “Support in defence and participation in removing the Iranian nuclear threat.”
