A woman was allegedly attacked by a Rapido bike taxi driver near a footwear shop in Bengaluru’s Jayanagar area. The incident happened three days ago, and it reportedly started when the woman confronted the driver for driving rashly.
Police said the argument between the two turned serious. The driver allegedly slapped the woman during the fight. In a video that has gone viral online, the Rapido driver can be seen slapping her so hard that she falls to the ground. Many people were standing around them, but no one stepped in immediately.
At first, the woman did not want to go to the police. But later, she was convinced to file a complaint. Police have registered an NCR (Non-Cognisable Report) in the case. However, after the video went viral, the police are now thinking about changing the NCR into a proper FIR. Officers at Jayanagar Police Station are looking into the case in detail.
This is not the first such case in Bengaluru. In September last year, an Ola auto driver allegedly slapped a woman after she cancelled her ride. He shouted at her, saying, “Terabaapdetahaikya gas ke paise?” and tried to take her phone. The driver also forced her to go to the police station, but she refused. He was later arrested.
Police are urging women to report such cases immediately.
