Two terrorists were killed along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Naushehra Nard area of the Gurez sector in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district after the army foiled an infiltration attempt on Thursday, officials confirmed. A search operation has been launched in the area, and an anti-terror operation is still underway.

The incident took place near Naushehra Naar, where alert troops noticed a group of infiltrators trying to cross into Indian territory. In the gun battle that followed, two terrorists were killed.

The army detected movement along the LoC. According to officials, the Army’s Chinar Corps acted on intelligence inputs and noticed suspicious movement along the LoC. The soldiers challenged the infiltrators, who opened fire. In response, the army retaliated and neutralised the terrorists.

The Army shared details of the operation in a post on X, stating, “Based on intelligence provided by JKP regarding a likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and @JmuKmrPolice in the Gurez Sector. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists. Operation is in progress."

Search operation underway

After the encounter, security forces started a search operation in the surrounding area to ensure there were no more infiltrators hiding nearby.

This latest action comes after a series of counter-terror operations in the region. Earlier this month, under Operation Akhal, six terrorists were eliminated in the Akhal forest area, though one soldier was injured. On August 2, security forces had killed three militants in the same operation, which had begun on August 1 after intelligence reports indicated the presence of armed militants in the dense forest.

The army said its operations will continue in the region to prevent infiltration and ensure security along the LoC.
