The Bihar Police Headquarters has issued a statewide high alert after receiving intelligence inputs that three Pakistan-based terrorists from the group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) have entered the state through Nepal. According to senior officials, the suspects have been identified as Hasnain Ali from Rawalpindi, Adil Hussain from Umerkot, and Mohammad Usman from Bahawalpur.
Intelligence reports indicate that the three men first arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal, in the second week of August and crossed into Bihar last week. To track them, the Bihar Police has shared passport details of the suspects with police units across the border districts. Security agencies have been instructed to intensify surveillance, gather intelligence, and take prompt action if any suspicious activities are detected.
In response, security has been tightened along the Indo-Nepal border, especially in the Seemanchal region. Districts like Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Supaul, Araria, East Champaran, and West Champaran have been put under strict watch. These areas are sensitive because Bihar shares a long and porous border of about 729 kilometres with Nepal, making it easier for infiltrators to cross without much difficulty.
This is not the first time security has been increased in Bihar. Earlier in May, authorities had already strengthened patrolling in these regions due to concerns linked to Operation Sindoor and the upcoming Assembly elections.
Officials pointed out that monitoring the Indo-Nepal border is always a challenge because of its open nature. Seven districts in Bihar lie directly along this border, making it a vulnerable point for infiltration and cross-border movements.
India, in total, shares land borders with seven countries, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Afghanistan, and also shares maritime boundaries with Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Indonesia. The open border with Nepal, in particular, has long been used by smugglers, criminals, and sometimes terrorist groups to move people and resources illegally. The Bihar Police and central security agencies are now on high alert, working to ensure that the suspects are traced and no untoward incident takes place in the state.
