Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming three-nation tour to Europe has been cancelled due to the growing tensions between India and Pakistan, official sources confirmed on Wednesday. The visit, which was scheduled from May 13 to 17, included stops in Croatia, Norway, and The Netherlands.
PM Modi was expected to attend the Nordic Summit in Norway, but the trip has now been called off. The respective countries have been notified about the decision, sources said. The trip, scheduled for mid-May, would have been an important diplomatic engagement for Prime Minister Modi. However, due to the recent military strikes against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Modi has shifted his focus to national security concerns.
The operation was a response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians. India carried out targeted strikes against terror networks, specifically those linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The strikes were carried out with precision to minimize escalation. Pakistan condemned the attacks, labelling them as an "act of war."
Prime Minister Modi’s cancellation of his European visit shows a shift in India’s diplomatic priorities, placing greater focus on regional security and military strategy. The decision also follows his withdrawal from attending Russia’s Victory Day celebrations on May 9, emphasizing India’s immediate geopolitical concerns.
Following Operation Sindoor, a military briefing was held by Colonel Sofia Qureshi, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, reinforcing India’s strategic military narrative. By cancelling the three-nation tour, India signals its commitment to safeguarding national interests and staying vigilant against potential retaliatory threats. As the situation unfolds, India’s approach to regional security continues to evolve under growing global scrutiny.
