Prime Minister Narendra Modi kept a close watch on a special military operation named Operation Sindoor, which was carried out by the Indian armed forces early Wednesday. The mission was a response to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that took the lives of 26 people. According to sources, the Prime Minister received real-time updates and held several meetings with the country’s top defence and security officials.
Strikes on terror bases
As part of the operation, Indian forces launched missile attacks on nine terror targets located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Ministry of Defence confirmed the targets included the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Muridke. These are known to be strongholds of terrorist groups involved in attacks against India.
Sources say Operation Sindoor was carefully planned after intelligence reports were studied in the days following the Pahalgam attack. The Ministry of Defence released a statement at 1:44 am on Wednesday, calling the strikes "focused, measured and non-escalatory." It also made it clear that no civilian areas or people were targeted during the strikes. Only locations directly connected to terrorism were hit.
The Prime Minister spoke several times with the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force starting late Tuesday and continuing through early Wednesday morning. He was also regularly briefed by the Chief of Defence Staff, top intelligence officers, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Following the operation, security has been tightened in border areas and big cities. The armed forces are staying alert to ensure safety and peace. The Director General of Military Operations said India remains committed to peace but will not tolerate terrorism.
Leaders from different political parties have shown support for the armed forces and the government’s decision. People across the country continue to remember and honor the victims of the Pahalgam tragedy.
