A deadly terrorist attack took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday. The attack has left many families across India in deep sorrow, including one in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

One of the people killed was Shubham Dwivedi, who had recently married on February 12, 2025. He had gone to Kashmir with his wife for a short vacation. Sadly, what was supposed to be a happy trip turned into a nightmare. His cousin, Saurabh Dwivedi, said the attackers asked people their names before shooting. Shubham was shot in the head. His body will be handed over to the family in 2-3 days.

Another victim was Dilip Desale from Panvel, Maharashtra. His death was confirmed by BJP MLA Prashant Thakur, who strongly condemned the attack.

After the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman returned early from their foreign visits. PM Modi was in Saudi Arabia, and Sitharaman was visiting the US and Peru. This is one of the deadliest attacks since Article 370 was removed in 2019.

Other people killed in the attack included: Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, a 26-year-old Navy officer from Karnal, Haryana, had recently married and was on vacation. Other was Prashant Satpathy, an Accounts Officer from Odisha, was travelling with his wife and son. Prashant died in the attack, and his family still doesn’t know where his wife and child are. The list also include Shailesh Kadatiya, 44, from Surat, was on vacation with his wife and two kids. He died, but his family survived. The news was confirmed by Surat's Deputy Tehsildar Sazid Merujay.

Prashant’s elder brother, Susanta Satpathy, said they got the news at 3 PM. They called a toll-free number and were told Prashant had died. But no one has given them any information about Prashant’s wife and child. The death of Lieutenant Narwal, who was posted in Kochi, has shocked his family and community. He had joined the Navy only two years ago.

People across Jammu and Kashmir are deeply upset. Locals in Pahalgam, including taxi drivers, held candlelight marches to show support for the victims. They said tourists are like family, and they want justice. In a post on X, PM Modi said those responsible will be punished. He offered his condolences to the families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. He said India’s fight against terrorism will only get stronger.

Home Minister Amit Shah held a big security meeting in Srinagar. He also promised that the attackers would not be spared.The Indian Army and J&K Police have started a search in the Baisran area of Pahalgam to find the terrorists. Delhi Police have also been told to keep a close watch on tourist places and other important locations.
