One person was killed and seven others were injured after terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists at the Baisaran mountaintop in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack happened around 2:30 PM on Monday.

As per early reports, some unknown gunmen attacked a group of tourists who had gone trekking. Police said the terrorists started shooting without warning at the tourists while they were riding horses in the Baisaran meadows. This area is very high up in the mountains, and no vehicles can go there; people can only reach it by walking or riding horses.

Visuals from the area show injured victims being carried to hospitals for treatment. In one of the videos, a woman can be seen crying and pleading for help, asking for her husband to be rescued.

Soon after the attack, security forces rushed to the area and cordoned it off. The route is a non-motorable road, and sources said that the forces are moving carefully to avoid possible traps set by the attackers.

According to PTI, gunshots were heard in the Baisaran Valley, and two to three terrorists dressed in army-like clothing carried out the attack.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti strongly condemned the attack. She said, "I strongly condemn the cowardly attack on tourists in Pahalgam, which tragically killed one and injured several. Such violence is unacceptable and must be denounced."

She added, "Historically, Kashmir has welcomed tourists warmly, making this rare incident deeply concerning… Our thoughts are with the victims and their families."
