A fun evening turned into a frightening one for 36 people, including women and children, at a private amusement park on East Coast Road in Chennai on Tuesday. A thrill ride known as “Topgun” suddenly stopped mid-air, trapping riders about 50 feet above the ground and causing panic among those stuck.

The incident occurred around 6 PM when the roller coaster, which usually shoots straight up and drops sharply, made a loud noise and stopped halfway through the ride. Park staff rushed to help, but their crane couldn’t reach high enough to assist the stranded riders, adding to the tension.

With the situation getting tense, the fire department was quickly called. A team from Guindy arrived with a special high-reach vehicle that could extend up to 150 feet. The full-scale rescue operation began at around 8:30 PM and lasted about an hour, drawing attention from nearby visitors.

Thankfully, all 36 people were brought down safely. Firefighters even provided water and biscuits to help comfort those stuck on the ride. Medical staff stood by ready to provide first aid, but no serious injuries were reported.

Officials said a large crane was used to lower the riders one by one. Authorities are now investigating what caused the ride to malfunction. Early reports suggest the ride had mechanical problems that may have been overlooked by the operators, raising concerns about safety checks.
