A second-year MBBS student from Jammu and Kashmir was allegedly assaulted by senior students at Al-Ameen Medical College in Karnataka's Vijayapura. The victim, Hameem, hails from Anantnag and claims that the harassment began during a cricket match on Tuesday evening.

According to reports, the incident took place around 4 PM when Hameem was watching a match between the 2019 and 2022 batches on the college premises. A senior student ordered him to stay outside the boundary line, and Hameem obeyed without protest. However, a group of seniors later confronted him, questioning his presence and demanding that he leave. When he refused, they forced him to sing songs and dance for their amusement. The situation worsened further when the seniors allegedly tried to force him into a car. When Hameem took out his phone to record the incident, they became even more aggressive.

Attack inside hostel room

The harassment didn’t stop there. Later that night, a group of 6-8 senior students entered Hameem’s hostel room and attacked him. They forced him to make a video in which he had to apologise, even though he was under pressure and afraid. The attackers reportedly warned him, "You have four more years here. We are locals—imagine how terrible we can make your life."

The senior students also warned Hameem that he would not be allowed to play cricket for the rest of his time at the college.

Nasir Khuehami, the National Convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, strongly criticised the attack. He called it a "deeply disturbing" case of bullying and violence.

"We ask the Karnataka Chief Minister to step in, ensure the victim gets justice quickly, and take strict action against those responsible so that such incidents do not happen again in colleges," he said in a social media post.

The incident has caused anger, and people are demanding that the authorities take action immediately. However, the college administration and local police have not yet made an official statement about the case.
