A shocking incident unfolded involving an attack on actor Saif Ali Khan. According to the police, the accused entered the building by scaling the boundary wall while both security guards were asleep.

The attacker, identified as Bangladeshi national Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, alias Vijay Das (30), targeted the actor in his 12th-floor Mumbai apartment.

The attack took place on January 16, leaving Saif Ali Khan with six stab wounds. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. The accused was arrested three days later in Thane and remanded to police custody. As part of the investigation, Mumbai police recreated the crime scene to understand the sequence of events.

The police revealed that the accused found both security guards asleep and entered the building through the main entrance, which lacked CCTV surveillance. To avoid detection, he removed his shoes, placed them in his bag to minimize noise, and switched off his phone, according to the report.

The police further revealed that no CCTV cameras were installed in the corridor near Saif Ali Khan's apartment. According to the investigation, one of the two security guards was asleep in the cabin, while the other was near the gate, as stated by PTI.

The accused, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, is currently in police custody at either Bandra or Santacruz police stations, with no visitors allowed except for the investigating officer.

Fakir, a native of the Jhalokathi district in Bangladesh, had been living in Mumbai for over five months. During this time, he took up odd jobs and worked with a housekeeping agency, the police stated.

It has also been reported that Fakir was also involved in the theft of a diamond ring at a customer's house in Worli. His crime was followed by his termination from another employment due to an official complaint that resulted in evidence of his offence in the CCTV footage.

Is there any international angle?

The Mumbai Police are probing if it is an international conspiracy. Shehzad, who was a Bangladeshi national, admitted to having entered India without proper documents and assumed a false identity. The court has remanded him to five days of police custody to probe further into the matter.
