Mumbai Police detained a suspect in connection with the attack on Saif Ali Khan after tracking him down on Friday morning.
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his Bandra apartment early Thursday morning. The attack, which left him with serious injuries, is now under investigation by the Mumbai Police. The situation has raised concerns about celebrity security, especially in a city that is both a hub for the entertainment industry and a densely populated urban area.
The attack took place when an intruder entered Saif Ali Khan's upscale high-rise apartment in Bandra. Police officials said the intruder had an argument with the actor's maid late at night. When Saif tried to intervene and calm the situation, the attacker suddenly stabbed him multiple times, leaving a blade lodged in Saif's spine.
Nothing is known for sure about the motive of the attacker, except that the kidnapper might have demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore after threatening to assault him.
The police were able to close in on the suspect quickly because of key evidence captured on CCTV footage. The cameras at Saif's building recorded the intruder wearing a red scarf, a t-shirt, jeans, and carrying a backpack.
The footage showed the suspect fleeing the scene, running down the building's stairwell, and even looking directly at the camera at one point.
The suspect was finally spotted at Bandra railway station, and police arrested him on Friday morning. As per police officials, the intruder had a detailed knowledge of Saif’s building.
According to Philip, the house help of Saif, the situation took a terrifying turn when she woke up to find the intruder approaching the bed of Saif's youngest son, Jeh. She tried to stop him, but she was injured in the ensuing struggle. It was then that the intruder allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore, threatening violence if his demand wasn't met.
Saif was alerted by the screams of Philip and came out to face the attacker. The following was a violent clash in which Saif was stabbed several times before the attacker left the scene.
Saif was instantly taken to a hospital where surgery was performed on his spine removing the blade which was lodged within it. To everyone's luck, Saif has now undergone surgery and his condition is being stated as stable though his cure is still very much under supervision by the doctors.
Further investigation is still underway, and further details are awaited. Mumbai Police are trying to find out the motive behind the attack and if the suspect had any connection with the actor or his family.
