A 25-year-old woman named Sakshi was allegedly killed by her father in Bihar’s Samastipur district after she ran away to Delhi with her boyfriend, police said on Thursday.
According to the police, Sakshi was murdered on April 7. Her body was found last night inside a locked bathroom in her house. The accused, Mukesh Singh, has been arrested. He is said to be a former Army man.
Sakshi’s maternal uncle, Vipin Kumar, told the police that she had fled to Delhi on March 4 with her boyfriend, who belongs to a different caste and lived near her house. He said both of them studied at the same college.
A week ago, Mukesh Singh somehow convinced Sakshi to return home from Delhi. However, just a few days after coming back, Sakshi went missing again.
When Sakshi’s mother asked her husband about her, he said that she had left the house once more. But she became suspicious and informed the police.
During the investigation, police noticed a bad smell coming from a locked bathroom in their house. When they opened it, they found Sakshi’s body inside. After being questioned, Singh admitted to killing his daughter.
Police said he had also tried to find and kill the boy, but he wasn’t in the village.
When love becomes a crime
Where is our country heading? In many families, love is still treated like a crime. A woman is killed by her own father just because she chose to be with someone from another caste. This is not just about caste or control — it’s about a deeply rooted patriarchal mindset. Instead of talking to his daughter and understanding her choices, the father chose violence. Day by day, such thinking is turning worse. Love should never lead to death. It’s heartbreaking that in 2025, we are still asking for the basic right to choose whom to love.
