US President Donald Trump has announced plans to sue The Wall Street Journal over a report claiming he wrote a letter to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier who died in prison in 2019. According to the Journal, the letter, allegedly sent for Epstein’s 50th birthday in 2003, featured a drawing of a naked woman.

The Journal said it saw the letter but did not share any photos of it. The report claimed that the letter had typewritten text inside an outline of a naked woman drawn with a marker. Trump’s signature appeared below the waist, and the note ended with: "Happy Birthday -- and may every day be another wonderful secret."

Trump denied ever writing such a letter or drawing the image. He wrote on Truth Social:

“The Editor of The Wall Street Journal... was told directly by (White House press secretary) Karoline Leavitt, and by President Trump, that the letter was a FAKE.”

He added, “Instead, they are going with a false, malicious, and defamatory story anyway.”

“President Trump will be suing The Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, and Mr. (Rupert) Murdoch, shortly. The Press has to learn to be truthful, and not rely on sources that probably don't even exist.”

Speaking to the Journal, Trump also said: “This is not me. This is a fake thing.”

“I don’t draw pictures of women,” he added. “It’s not my language. It’s not my words.”

The Journal reported that the collection of letters was put together by Ghislaine Maxwell, a close associate of Epstein, who is now serving a prison sentence for helping him in his crimes.

Epstein case resurfaces

Trump has faced repeated questions about his past connection with Epstein, who was arrested for running a sex trafficking operation involving underage girls. Epstein died in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial, during Trump’s presidency. Authorities said he died by suicide.

Some of Trump’s supporters believed that Epstein had a secret list of rich and powerful clients, and that he may have been killed to protect them. But the Justice Department and FBI recently said there is no such “client list” and no evidence of murder. They confirmed Epstein died by suicide and said they would not release any more information on the case.

Prosecutor in Epstein case fired

On the same day Trump made his statement, reports came in that Maurene Comey, a federal prosecutor involved in Epstein’s case, had been removed from her job. Comey is the daughter of James Comey, former FBI director and known critic of Trump. She also helped prosecute Ghislaine Maxwell.

Major US media outlets reported that she was dismissed on Wednesday from her role in Manhattan.

US politicians reacted to the report. Republican Senator JD Vance, now also Trump’s Vice President pick, posted on X: “The WSJ should be ashamed for publishing it. Where is this letter? Would you be shocked to learn they never showed it to us before publishing it?”

Meanwhile, Democratic Representative Pat Ryan said, “I think we now know EXACTLY why Donald Trump refuses to release the Epstein files.”
