U.S. President Donald Trump has asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to release more documents related to the investigation of late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Trump made the demand after a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report claimed he sent Epstein a letter in 2003, which included a drawing of a naked woman.
Trump denied the claim and called the letter "fake", adding that he had never drawn anything in his life. He also announced plans to sue the newspaper for what he called a false and malicious story.
Trump calls the case “scam”
On Thursday (July 18), Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social, calling for the release of any Grand Jury testimony in the Epstein case, if approved by the court.
“Based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval. This SCAM, perpetuated by the Democrats, should end, right now!” — Donald Trump on Truth Social
A day earlier, Trump had said Bondi could release “whatever she thinks is credible” regarding Epstein.
Trump is under increasing pressure from his MAGA base, especially over not releasing a list of people believed to be involved with Epstein. Many supporters had expected full disclosure when Trump returned to office.
Trump’s demand comes just weeks after the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI announced that the Epstein investigation is closed.
According to a memo released by the DOJ:
There is no client list linked to Epstein.
No evidence shows Epstein blackmailed powerful people.
Surveillance footage showed that no one entered Epstein’s jail cell before his death.
There is no credible evidence to charge any unlisted individuals.
The DOJ also said that no further information from the Epstein probe would be released.
