The fight between Israel and Iran has become more serious. On Monday (June 16, 2025), an Israeli airstrike hit Iran’s state-run television station during a live show. The explosion was so sudden that the reporter had to run away from the camera. This attack came after Iran fired a new wave of missiles at Israel. At least eight people in Israel died in this attack.
In total, Iranian missiles and drones have killed 24 people and injured more than 500 in Israel so far, according to Israeli officials. They said Iran had launched more than 370 missiles and hundreds of drones in recent days.
In return, Israel has been striking hard. It has attacked Iran’s top military officers, nuclear centres, and scientists. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said these Israeli strikes have damaged Iran’s nuclear plans badly. “The Israeli strikes have set Iran’s nuclear program back a very, very long time,” he said. He also added that Israel is not trying to remove the Iranian government. But, he said, “I would not be surprised if that happened as a result of the strikes.”
US President Donald Trump, who is attending the G7 summit in Canada, also shared his thoughts. He repeated his strong warning against Iran getting nuclear weapons. He posted: “IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON.” He also said Iran should have signed the “deal” he told it to sign to avoid what he called “a shame and waste of human life”, referring to Israel’s attack last week.
Iran has not stopped either. Iranian state news reported that three drones hit the South Pars gas field, which is Iran’s biggest gas production centre. Iran also said that it has launched around 100 missiles and warned that more attacks will come. Since Friday, Israeli strikes have killed at least 224 people in Iran.
On Monday morning, big explosions shook Tel Aviv. Thick black smoke filled the sky over the city. The situation between the two countries remains very tense.
