A day after tensions escalated outside Pakistan’s Adiala Jail over unverified rumours claiming that former Prime Minister Imran Khan had died in custody, prison authorities issued a strong clarification, asserting that the PTI chief was in “good health” and very much inside the facility.

According to a statement released by the jail administration and quoted by Geo News, the speculation surrounding Imran Khan’s health and alleged transfer from the prison was “completely baseless”. Officials added that Khan was receiving “complete medical attention” and that his routine remained unchanged.

The rumours, which circulated rapidly on social media, had triggered anxiety among his supporters, prompting heightened security outside the prison. Imran Khan, a former cricket legend and chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), has been incarcerated for over two years as multiple corruption and state-level cases continue to move through Pakistan’s legal system.

Meanwhile, his family members have raised serious concerns about the conditions in which he is being held. His sisters and sons have alleged that the former Prime Minister, who was ousted from power after losing a no-confidence vote in 2022, is being kept in solitary confinement under “inhumane” circumstances. They claim he is denied adequate interaction, proper facilities, and fair legal treatment, allegations the government has repeatedly rejected.

Despite the official clarification, the incident has once again highlighted the deep political polarisation in Pakistan, where any whisper about Imran Khan’s health or safety quickly sparks nationwide reactions. The situation also underscores the intense scrutiny around Khan’s imprisonment, which remains a central issue in Pakistan’s current political discourse.
