Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of Air Staff, held his first media briefing on Friday since Operation Sindoor, which was launched by the Indian Armed Forces in May to target terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir after the Pahalgam terror attack.

During the briefing, Singh said that the Indian Air Force showcased remarkable efficiency during the four-day operation. He revealed that Indian forces successfully destroyed Pakistan’s F-16 and J-17 fighter jets. He also highlighted that counter-UAV systems and long-range surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) were deployed with precision, allowing strikes deep inside Pakistani territory.

“This operation has made history, as Indian forces struck targets nearly 300 kilometres away. Work is also underway on the advanced Sudarshan Chakra system,” Singh said. He emphasised that the armed forces were given a clear directive and mandate, ensuring that the operation began with a defined objective and concluded in a short period without prolonging hostilities.

Singh pointed out that the way the operation was conducted offers an important lesson to the world. “We are seeing ongoing conflicts around the world where wars continue without a clear termination. In our case, we were able to bring the hostilities to an end once our objectives were met, forcing the other side to seek a ceasefire. This is something the world should learn from India,” he added.

The IAF chief highlighted the role of India’s newly operational long-range SAMs, which allowed the Air Force to monitor and restrict enemy activities deep inside their territory. Singh said, “It will go down in history as the longest kill achieved of over 300 kilometres. This capability seriously curtailed the adversary’s operations.”

He underlined that these advanced air defence assets, along with precise targeting of fighter jets and terror camps, demonstrated India’s strategic and operational strength. The success of Operation Sindoor has strengthened India’s defence capabilities and sent a clear message about the efficiency and reach of its armed forces.
