A disturbing case has reemerged online involving a 17-year-old girl from Ramnagar, Uttarakhand, who allegedly transmitted HIV to at least 19 men. The incident, which initially came to light in late 2024, has gained renewed attention on social media platforms.
According to reports, the teenager, who was reportedly addicted to drugs, engaged in sexual relationships with local men to fund her addiction. A post widely shared on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that the men were unaware of her HIV status. The post also says that some of the infected men were married, leading to the potential spread of the virus to their wives.

She was addicted to smack, and to fund her addiction, she engaged in physical relationships with men.
The men didn't know that she had HIV.
She slept with even some married men, whose wives also
got HIV.
The case was first uncovered when several young men in the Gularghatti area of Nainital began experiencing severe health issues. They sought medical help at the Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC) at Ramdatt Joshi Joint Hospital, where tests confirmed they were HIV positive.
An investigation linked the infections to a common source: a teenage girl from a low-income family who was using heroin. During counselling sessions, she revealed that she had been sexually active with many of the men over several months.
Public reaction
The story's recent resurgence has sparked debate on social media. While many users were shocked by the incident, a prominent theme in the online commentary has been the culpability of the men involved, particularly because the girl was a minor.
Several social media users pointed out that having sexual relations with a minor is a serious crime under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. One user commented, "So married men cheated on their wives and slept with minors. They deserve it." Another added, "The only victims, in this case, are the poor women who were married to these disgusting men!"
Others questioned why the men's actions were not the primary focus of the discussion, with one user asking, "Why are adult men sleeping with an underage person not the main problem here?"
Community response
In the wake of the incident, the local health department initiated extensive awareness campaigns about HIV/AIDS. These efforts included organising seminars and awareness drives where free testing and medication were provided to those affected. The identities of all individuals who tested positive were kept confidential to protect their privacy.
