A police case has been filed in Bengaluru after a social media page was found sharing photos of women commuters on the city’s metro system without their permission. The Instagram account, called Bangalore Metro Chicks, was posting pictures of women who were travelling on the Namma Metro.
The account gained attention on social media after a user on X (formerly Twitter) tagged the Bengaluru City Police and asked them to take action. Soon after, the police responded and registered a case against unknown people. This step was taken even before anyone officially filed a complaint.
According to the police, the photos were taken inside metro coaches and on platforms. The women in the pictures did not know they were being clicked, and there was no permission given by them to use their images.
The Instagram page had more than 5,000 followers before people began raising concerns. After the outrage and the FIR, all the images were removed from the page.
Police are now trying to find the person or people behind the account. They have said this kind of action is a serious matter and a violation of people’s privacy, especially when done without consent.
