A man from Bengaluru has asked the city’s civic body, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), to pay him ₹50 lakh. He says the city’s broken roads have caused him serious pain and mental stress.
The man, 43-year-old Dhivya Kiran, lives in Richmond Town. He sent a legal notice to BBMP, saying that even though he pays taxes, he has to suffer every day because the roads are in very bad shape. He says the roads are full of “deep potholes, broken and uneven pathways, and unmotorable road surfaces.”
Kiran said that the poor road conditions have caused him “severe neck and back pain.” Doctors told him the pain was from the jerks and shocks he felt while traveling on the damaged roads.
In the notice, he explained that he had to visit orthopedic doctors five times and go to the emergency room four times at St. Philomena’s Hospital. He even needed injections and treatments to manage the pain.
The notice also said that Kiran has had a hard time emotionally. He faced “episodes of crying out in pain, loss of sleep, anxiety, and mental distress,” which made everyday life very difficult.
Because the roads are so rough, Kiran said he can no longer ride in autos or on two-wheelers. Even cab rides make him uncomfortable. This has made it hard for him to get around, affecting both his personal and work life.
He has asked BBMP to pay ₹50 lakh to cover the “physical agony and emotional trauma” he has been through.
