A missing person case that had puzzled authorities for seven years ended unexpectedly after a woman spotted her “missing” husband in an Instagram reel with another woman. This led to his arrest.

Jitendra Kumar, also called Bablu, was reported missing in 2018, just a year after marrying Sheelu. Their marriage had turned sour, with Sheelu alleging dowry harassment, including demands for a gold chain and ring. When the demands were not met, Sheelu was forced to leave the marital home, and her family filed a dowry harassment case.

Soon after the case was filed, Jitendra vanished. His father lodged a missing person complaint in April 2018, but police were unable to trace him. For years, Sheelu lived under suspicion, and Jitendra’s family accused her of killing him.

The mystery was solved when Sheelu spotted Jitendra in an Instagram reel with another woman. She immediately informed the police. Investigators found that Jitendra had faked his disappearance, moved to Ludhiana, remarried, and started a new life.

Sandila Circle Officer Santosh Singh confirmed Jitendra’s arrest, adding that charges of bigamy, fraud, and dowry harassment have been filed. He is now in police custody, with further legal proceedings ongoing.
