Every year, thousands of people vanish across the world, many never to be found. But sometimes, a case emerges that shocks everyone. One such story comes from Romania, where Vezile Gorgo, a cattle farmer missing for 30 years, suddenly reappeared in 2021, wearing the very same clothes he wore when he left.
Back in 1991, Gorgo, then 63 years old, left home for a business trip. He had even purchased a return ticket, but never came back. His family searched for him, but after years without answers, he was eventually declared dead. The family held annual prayers in his memory, believing they would never see him again.
On August 29, 2021, Vezile shocked everyone by arriving home in a car that quickly drove off before anyone could note the number plate. To everyone’s surprise, he still carried his old ID card and the train ticket from three decades earlier. His sudden reappearance left his family stunned.
A YouTube documentary later showed that doctors found Vezile in good physical health, but with some mental disorientation linked to old age. He could recall much of his childhood and early life, but was unable to recognise his own children. His son admitted it was difficult to connect with him, as Vezile often gave contradictory answers about his recent past.
Even today, no one knows where Vezile lived during those 30 years, who he worked for, or what kept him away from home. His sudden return, carrying fragments of his past but little clarity about the present, remains one of the most puzzling disappearance stories in recent memory.
