Former India captain Rohit Sharma couldn’t hold back his emotions as the Indian women’s team lifted the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 trophy on Sunday. Watching from the stands at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Rohit was seen with tears in his eyes, a moment that has since gone viral on social media.
Having faced the heartbreak of losing the 2023 Men’s World Cup final at home, Rohit’s emotional reaction reflected pure pride and relief as Harmanpreet Kaur’s side created history with their maiden World Cup triumph.

It was a truly special day for Indian cricket as the Harmanpreet-led side defeated South Africa by 52 runs to clinch their first-ever World Cup title. The skipper herself took the final catch to dismiss Nadine de Klerk, sealing the win and sparking jubilant celebrations across the stadium.
Cash reward of 51 crore
Soon after, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia announced a cash reward of ₹51 crore for the entire squad, players, coaches, and support staff.
“Just like Kapil Dev’s 1983 team inspired a generation, Harmanpreet Kaur and her players have ushered in a new era for women’s cricket,” Saikia said. He also credited Jay Shah’s tenure for transforming women’s cricket in India, introducing pay parity and helping raise ICC prize money by 300%, from $2.88 million to $14 million.
With this historic win, India has finally buried the heartbreaks of 2005 and 2017, giving the nation a new reason to celebrate, and a moment that will stay etched in cricketing history.
