After India’s disappointing Test series losses to New Zealand and Australia under Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to limit family time for Indian players during international tours. Sources reveal that the suggestion to reduce family time was made by none other than the head coach himself.

According to an anonymous source, Gambhir wants to eliminate indiscipline in the Indian team and suggested limiting family time on both short and long tours. Under the new rules, for tournaments lasting 45 days or more, families will be allowed to stay with players for only 14 days. For shorter tours, the stay will be limited to one week.

According to a source who spoke anonymously to Mast Head, Gautam Gambhir discussed issues of indiscipline in the Indian dressing room during a review meeting after the loss in the Border-Gavaskar series. The source explained that indiscipline was a key factor in the BCCI's decision to return to pre-COVID rules, allowing families to stay with players for two weeks during tours. Gambhir and the players were reportedly in agreement on the matter of family stays.

Gautam Gambhir has also recommended that the board and team management take a stricter approach with junior players. During the Australian tour, several senior and junior cricketers were seen going out for dinners, with sources revealing that only one team dinner took place during the tour from November 2024 to January 2025.

Also, a senior Indian player present at the meeting with BCCI president Roger Binny suggested that match fees should not be distributed immediately. Instead, the fees should be tied to players' performance in the game. The player felt that some cricketers were not prioritizing their commitments to the domestic and national teams.

Sources also says that a meeting between Gautam Gambhir and a BCCI official may take place on the sidelines of the first T20I against England in Kolkata, amid the ongoing controversies.
