On Monday (April 28), 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The young left-handed batter from Bihar scored the fastest century by an Indian player in IPL history. He needed only 35 balls to reach the 100-run mark. During his powerful innings, he hit 7 fours and 11 sixes.

This special moment happened during the IPL match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. With this record, Suryavanshi broke the old record held by Yusuf Pathan. Pathan had scored a century in 37 balls during the Rajasthan Royals-Mumbai Indians match at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on March 13, 2010.

The overall record for the fastest century in the IPL is still held by Chris Gayle. The former West Indies captain had scored a century in just 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors India on April 23, 2013, in Bengaluru.

Suryavanshi opened the innings for RR and formed a big partnership of 166 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who also played well and scored 70 runs from 40 balls. Their partnership came in only 11.5 overs.

During his powerful innings, Suryavanshi also became the youngest batter (14 years, 32 days) to score a century in IPL history. He also equalled Murali Vijay’s record of hitting the most sixes in an IPL innings.

Thanks to his incredible batting, RR chased down the big target of 210 runs in just 15.5 overs and won the match by 8 wickets. This win helped RR move up to the eighth position in the IPL points table.

For his best performance, Suryavanshi was given the Player of the Match award.
