A medical report from Graphic Era Hospital in Dehradun has revealed the serious injuries suffered by 24-year-old Angel Chakma, a student from Tripura, who later died after being violently attacked in Uttarakhand.

According to the hospital’s clinical report, Angel had deep cuts on his back and on the back part of his head. Doctors also found several abrasions on his foot. Most concerning was that Angel completely lost movement on the right side of his body, including both his arm and leg. He also had loss of sensation in those areas. The report confirmed that his spinal cord was injured and that there were fissures, or cracks, in his brain, showing how severe the attack was.

The incident took place on December 9 in the Selakui police station area of Dehradun. What began as a protest over alleged racial abuse at a roadside canteen soon turned violent. Angel Chakma and his brother, Michael Chakma, were reportedly targeted by a group of men who were drunk at the time. The men allegedly made racially offensive remarks toward the brothers.

When Angel and his brother objected to the abuse, an argument broke out. The situation quickly escalated into a physical fight. During the scuffle, Angel was attacked with a sharp weapon and also struck with a kada. He suffered serious injuries to his head and back and collapsed at the spot.

Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police  Ajai Singh said the accused appeared to be intoxicated and that the situation went out of control within minutes. Angel was rushed to Graphic Era Hospital in critical condition. He remained under treatment for more than 17 days but died on December 26 due to the severity of his injuries.

After the attack, Angel’s family filed a complaint with the police. An FIR was registered, and a special investigation team was formed. So far, five people have been arrested in connection with the case. Two of those arrested are minors and have been sent to a juvenile reform home.

The arrested accused have been identified as Avnish Negi, Shaurya Rajput, Suraj Khwas, Sumit, and Ayush Baroni. One accused is still absconding and is believed to have fled to Nepal. Police have announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for any information that leads to his arrest, and a team has been sent to help track him down.

The Uttarakhand government has strongly condemned the incident. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami called the attack completely unacceptable and assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible. Police have now added murder charges to the case, and further investigation is ongoing.
